Novar Congratulates Staples on Energy Conservation Awards
Novar would like to congratulate Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS) for winning the prestigious ENERGY STAR Leaders Award and the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in Energy Management award from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Staples is being honored for its leadership in energy efficiency.

The 2011 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award, recognizes Staples leadership in energy management and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Staples received the award at an April 12, 2011 ceremony in Washington D.C. More than 140 of Staples facilities have received the ENERGY STAR, including retail stores, distribution centers and corporate offices. Staples has also set an aggressive target of achieving the ENERGY STAR at 500 facilities by the end of 2012. Additionally, Staples has substantially increased its usage of renewable power, representing 53 percent of its total US electricity consumption.
Staples has also been named an ENERGY STAR Leader by the EPA for reducing energy consumption by more than 11 percent across its portfolio. ENERGY STAR Leaders are recognized for reducing energy consumption by at least 10 percent across a portfolio of buildings, based on EPA's standardized tools for tracking energy use.
Staples is no stranger to energy efficiency leadership, first being recognized by the EPA for energy efficiency in 1999 as the Green Lights Partner of the Year. Today, Staples is the first non-grocery retailer to be recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leader.
From its energy conservation and renewable power initiatives, Staples has reduced its carbon footprint by 20 percent from 2001 to 2009
